How to make a pop-up Kirigami lotus
Given below is a simple technique which can be used to make pop-up greeting using origami paper; we will make a simple popup lotus using this technique.

How To:
Step 1:
Start by taking a rectangular peice of paper for the lotus and another piece for the base of the greeting.

Step 2:
Cut the rectangular piece in two equal halves as strips.

Step 3:
Take a strip and fold it into half thrice.

Step 4:
Hold the folds together and cut the corners to shape it like the edges of a lotus flower petal.

Step 5:
Unfold to get a structure as shown. Make cuts at the points indicated in black.

Step 6:
Repeat steps 3 and 4. For this strip, make cuts at the top in the points indicated.

Step 7:
Insert one strip into the other at the cuts made.

Step 8:
Bring the folds together.

Step 9:
You will get the below structure after folding them together.

Step 10:
Take the other rectangular piece and fold it in half to make a fold. Make a crease and unfold.

Step 11:
Apply glue as shown and paste it at the center crease.

Step 12:
Repeat this for the other side of the petals folded.
Step 13:
Open up the base and you have your lotus flower blooming at the center.

Thanks for this how-to. I had seen one made by a colleague but forgot the details. Now I made a couple of practice pieces with some success, and plan to find prettier paper to make some to send to friends.
